Peter Weir's follow-up to Master & Commander (2003) is the stark & brilliant The Way Back, which takes on the theme of man's struggle for freedom. At the dawn of WWII, several men escape from a Russian gulag. The film details their perilous & uncertain journey to freedom, as they cross deserts, mountains, & several nations.

I had really high expectations on this movie after seeing the trailer, the plot and the cast list but boy was I disappointed. The movie is so slow and lengthy I wondered half way through it if I had put on a National Geographic documentary about walking through Asia or if this was supposed to be entertaining. I gave it three stars because of the acting skills that are shown by Farrell and a couple of the others..
